Hi everyone I’m back! It’s been a while since I posted about one of my sessions. I have missed being able to capture memories of your beautiful newborns during the 4 months I wasn’t able to photograph babies or families. I have had to adjust the way in which I am conducting sessions, with much less hands on posing, socially distancing as much as possible and wearing a mask for a session. All hygiene procedures such as hand sanitising and washing of blankets and props after every session were something I always did. In fact the safest person you can have near your little one is probably a newborn baby photographer!
Here is my newborn photography session with the gorgeous 4-week old Emmie in Chelsea, South West London. I used to always photograph babies within the first 7-10 days but now I am photographing babies later to allow 14 days after families get back from hospital to ensure a Covid-free environment. The advantage of that is that I can get some beautiful awake images as well as those sleepy curled up ones people love so much!
When she was awake, Emmie was very focused on the camera and on her dad. She also had the strongest neck of any newborn baby I have photographed! I love these black and white photos of her. Just gorgeous.
Of course in every newborn photo session I always also get a variety gorgeous sleepy photos in both colour and black and white. I like to incorporate things which mean something to my clients too, like this beautiful heart blanket which was knitted for Emmie. I also like to use a newborn’s cuddly toy – an idea I give parents is to then photograph their baby every month to see how much they have grown relative to that toy.
One of my favourite things to capture in your Chelsea newborn baby photography session is tiny details such as hands, feet and back of head. Especially with mum and dad holding baby’s hands or feet – this gives a great sense of scale and can be used to remember just how tiny your newborn was as they grow up so quickly.
I love to incorporate families into a newborn photography session, my favourite being black and white images for that timeless, classic look, plus with differing skin tones they flow much more beautifully. I also prefer the connection mum and dad have with their baby rather than always just looking at the camera, especially with such an awake and alert baby like Emmie!
