London photographer safety procedures for reopening after Covid-19

Well I have to say this has been a difficult and weird couple of months here at ShutterBaby Photography. I have missed being able to photograph all my lovely babies and families (I have developed an obsession with photographing squirrels instead!!). I have used this time instead to do all the things in my business that I normally put off… like website maintenance and marketing… so while it’s been great to have been productive I am so excited to be able to get back to what I love most… creating beautiful memories for your family. All sessions are totally flexible and can be moved if government guidelines change. Below are all of the opening dates and Covid safety procedures I will be following – you can trust me to be a super safe London photographer!

As current government guidelines stand I will be opening:

Outdoor photography sessions – 1st June

As we are allowed to meet in groups of six in outdoor locations from 1st June, I am now booking outdoor photography sessions from 1st June. Below are my safety guidelines I will be following… the main one being to maintain a safe 2m distance from you and your family at all times (I have a super long lens!).

Indoor sessions at your home (2m distance) – 15th June

The government has stated that photography studios can open on 15th June (they finally acknowledged us woohoo!) so I am interpreting that as meaning I can also come into your home from then, providing your space is large enough that I can maintain a 2m distance at all times.

I will be assessing requests for newborn photography sessions at this time on a case by case basis depending on your space, the age of your baby etc. No posed images will be possible due to the fact I will need to maintain a 2m distance at all times.

The safety of your babies and family are my most important consideration and so I will be following strict safety guidelines as below.

Indoor sessions at your home (close contact) – 4th July

Based on current government guidelines that hairdressers and personal care business will be able to restart again on 4th July that’s when I will possibly be re-opening for close-contact sessions such as newborn sessions.

Newborn sessions however are the one thing that are still uncertain due to the amount of one-on-one contact that I would have with your baby, and I will be assessing these constantly on a weekly basis depending on how the pesky virus behaves over the next six weeks. I would normally do newborn sessions within the first couple of weeks but it’s more likely I will do them a little later to keep you and me safe. Sessions can also be done anytime up to about 6-8 weeks so I will suggest we move them later if it’s not safe to do the session at 2 weeks. I may also have to change the way I do newborn sessions, with a little less posing and more natural, lifestyle type images, to limit the close contact I have – read more on my blog about post-Covid newborn sessions.

I have always been super conscious of keeping your newborn safe with regular hand washing, sanitising of blankets and props and staying home if sick… but here are a few more Covid safety procedures I will be implementing in my London photography business going forward.
