Ever since I started my business photographing babies and families back in 2012, my favourite sessions have always been newborn babies. I especially love it when families invite me back to capture memories of their second, third and sometimes even fourth children. I first did a newborn photography session in Bromley, South London when Hannah was a baby, and this month I was invited back for Adam’s newborn session. I always do the photoshoots at client’s homes as I just find it so much more relaxing for the parents, as they don’t have to organise themselves to leave their home in those first crazy couple of weeks and have everything they need to hand. There will always be breaks for feeding and so this can be done in the comfort of your own home rather than an unfamiliar studio. And with older siblings they can play in their own surroundings and just be brought into the room when we are ready for the photos!
I always start the session with individual photos of your newborn asleep and curled up. Here are my favourite three of Adam. I also love to use a soft toy that you have for your baby (is it law to have a jellycat bunny, I think it might be :-). After the newborn session, I advise parents to take their own photo with the same toy every month as it’s great to use as a scale to see how your little one has grown.
If you have personal things which have been knitted or bought for your baby, like this gorgeous newborn blanket with Adam’s name on it then I will also incorporate that into your images. And of course I will also take sibling photos, like this gorgeous one of Hannah kissing Adam below and family photos with you snuggled in with your newborn.
One of my favourite things to capture in your Beckenham/ Bromley newborn baby photography session is the family photograph. Normally I get mum to hold the newborn and dad to hold the toddler…. the way I get those natural smiles rather than the fake “cheese” is to get dad to spin round three times…. works every time! Family photographs are an important heirloom to treasure for generations and a great image to get printed up large for the wall, either framed or on a canvas or acrylic.
